History

Malevolent Creation is a death metal band originally hailing from Buffalo, New York. Moving to Florida in 1988, they became a part of the emergent local death metal scene, landing a deal with Roadrunner Records. Their debut album, The Ten Commandments, became something of a landmark in the death metal underground, expanding on the early work of Slayer and fellow Floridians Death.

Severed savior

History

Severed Savior are a technical brutal death metal band from San Francisco, California. They formed in 1999 by Troy Fullerton (Drums, also in Carnivorous (US)). They play extremely technical brutal death metal with ripping guitars, harsh vocals and blasting technical drumming.

The band released their ”Forced to Bleed” EP in 2001, which was widely acclaimed by underground magazines. This showed their grandiose technical skill on their instruments and progression for a label contract.

They got that contract with underground specialists Unique Leader Records and released their debut full-length album ”Brutality is Law” which increased the progressive brutality and technicality of the band. They later released a one-song demo in 2006.

Septycal Gorge

History

Septycal Gorge is a brutal death metal from Italy. They formed in summer 2004 by Diego (Guitars) and Mariano (Vocals), after a week Dave (Drums) joined. However, there were alot of changes in the coming months and year, with Alex, Giampaolo, Damien all showing their time in the bass position and Marco (Guitars). Then the line up finally found stability with Dario (Guitars), Maurizio (Bass), Diego (Guitars) and Mariano (Vocals).

The band then imediatley began to record their ”Delivering Hidden Mutilation” demo in 2005. This was finally released by Mutilated Records, which featured the fast style of other Italian bands and a slam influence aswell from the slam death metal scene, most notable being Devourment and Deeds of Flesh.

They then released their well anticipated 2006 debut album ”Growing Seeds of Decay” on Mutilated Records. This featured the early demo songs aswell as four more new songs with the new line up all taking part. This was recieved greatly in the scene and got them toruing with such bands as Mortuary Drape, Vomit The Soul (Ita), Faust (Ita) and Wargore.

After, the band left the Czech-label Mutilated Records and went on to do a Promo in 2007, which amounted to a split release called ”Da Vinci Death Code” with Fleshgod Apocalypse, Modus Delicti and Onirik(Ita) on Ripper Tattoo Productions.

The band are going to release their follow up to their debut with ”Erase The Insignificant” which is hopefully being released sometime in september 2009. To promote the album they are doing a couple of fests this summer in Italy and then they might be doing a European Tour after the release in the Autumn.

Deed of flesh

History

Deeds of Flesh is a brutal death metal band formed in 1993 by Jacoby Kingston, Erik Lindmark and Joey Heaslet. Erik has been the only member never to leave the band in the band’s career. The two remaining original members have also created a record label, Unique Leader Records, which is thought highly of by fans of brutal death metal. Since their debut, their popularity has been rising and setting a new standard for modern brutality and technicality in death metal. Deeds of Flesh has found their definite sound niche in their 2001 release “Mark of The Legion”. Jacoby retired in 2007 and Erlend Caspersen replaced him on bass.

Formed in 2007 in the city of Bismarck, North Dakota. Vendetta Spoken is concocted of six motivated musicians whose shared vision of creating solid, unrelenting music is matched only by the versatility and aggression of their live performance.

Vendetta Spoken has shared the stage with bands Born of Osiris, Shai Hulud, With Blood Comes Cleansing, Hemlock, For Today, Too Pure to Die, The Crinn, Kingston Falls and several others.

The band have finally released their debut album “Shrieking of the Damned” and it is available at Hot Topic which is located at the Kirkwood Mall, Nightlife Music, and Eckroth Music of Bismarck.

Baltimore, United States (2001 – present)
Misery Index is an American death metal band formed in 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland by Jason Netherton (bass, vocals), Mike Harrison (guitar, vocals) and Kevin Talley (drums). Some say the band is named after Assück’s last album of the same name (1996), however the socio-political theme featured in many of the lyrics also point towards the economic term (both increasing inflation and unemployment result in the rise of the misery index). As of 2006, its line-up consists of Jason Netherton (bass, vocals), Sparky Voyles (guitar), Mark Klöppel (guitar) and Adam Jarvis (drums).

Their music is best described as death metal with strong hardcore and grindcore influences. Their vein of music is often said to resemble their fellow Maryland death metal outfit Dying Fetus, as Netherton and Voyles are former members of the band. Misery Index’s lyrical subject matter is quite left-wing, often coinciding with anarcho-punk aesthetic and focusing mostly on the ills of modern society.

They have toured with bands such as Fear Factory, Mastodon, Nile & Suffocation. They have also released a promotional video for ‘The Great Depression’ from the ‘Retaliate’ album and as of late November 2006, have a promotional video for ‘Conquistadores’ (from the album ‘Discordia’) ready to release.

New York, United States (1990 – present)
Suffocation, one of the earliest American death metal bands, arranged heavy, uniquely rhythmic, riffs into complex, Jazz-influenced song structures to create a sub-genre of the form often termed “brutal” death metal - also known by many as “New York Death Metal,” or “nydm” for short. Others in this form include Immolation, Incantation, Skinless, and Morpheus Descends.

The band formed in 1990 and has since released many highly-regarded recordings on several labels, including the former powerhouse of the genre, Roadrunner. Their debut, Effigy of the Forgotten, is considered a classic by most, topping the charts of many fans’ “all-time favorites” lists. Also worth noting is their debut EP, Human Waste, which was the first official release on relapse records in 1991.

Arch Enemy is a melodic death metal band from Halmstad, Sweden, and formed in 1995.
Arch Enemy is the brainchild of Michael Amott (Carcass, Carnage and Spiritual Beggars). Guitarists Michael Amott and younger brother Christopher Amott were joined by vocalist Johan Liiva (ex-Carnage, NonExist) and then-session drummer Daniel Erlandsson (Armageddon, Eucharist) in what Michael Amott called “An attempt to merge melody with aggression and technicality.”
The band’s debut, entitled Black Earth, was released by the now defunct Wrong Again Records in 1996. It obtained a fair amount of success in Japan, achieving MTV rotation with their first single “PlayBury Me an Angel”, as well as moderate success in Sweden. More of a ‘solo effort’ than a full band at this point, Michael Amott wrote all the songs himself, and even played bass guitar on the album - contrary to the album’s liner notes, which listed vocalist Johan Liiva as handling bass duties. Michael Amott later revealed that he had the credits listed that way to make the album seem more of a “band” effort. Many consider it to be the band’s most aggressive album, a trait which was softened to some degree on their following releases, but which was never abandoned.

Amon Amarth

History


Deeply rooted in melodic death metal with lyrics centred around Viking history and Norse mythology, Amon Amarth (formerly known as Scum) formed in 1992 in Tumba, Sweden, a southern suburb of Stockholm. They began writing material with lots of melodies, harmonies and lyrics about Vikings and the norse Pantheon. In summer 1993 they entered Lagret Studio to record the Thor Arise demo, which would later on appear on the bonus disc of the album Versus the World. The band continued rehearsing and writing stronger material and again entered the studio. The result was the second demo, The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter. This time the band was much more satisfied with the sound and songs and launched it to an unsuspecting underground. The response was overwhelming, quickly selling out of the first pressing and secured them a one off deal with Singapore’s Pulverised Records.

Gdańsk, Poland (1991 – present)
There are multiple artists with this name:
1) Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from Gdańsk. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground, alongside bands such as Vader, Decapitated, Vesania and Hate. Over the years Behemoth has moved from traditional black metal into blackened death metal and then into modern death metal with each consecutive release. They have released 8 full length albums so far and have just wrapped up recording a new album called “Evangelion” which is scheduled for release on August 11th.
The band was formed in 1991 as a trio, starting with raw and primitive black metal rehearsal tapes (Endless Damnation) and demos (The Return of the Northern Moon), the most significant of which was the second one—…From the Pagan Vastlands (1993)—showing the growing potential of the then teenage Nergal. Tomasz Wróblewski likes to announce that his metal influences sprung from Black Sabbath for giving him his ideas of “demonic” chords.
