The Early November

Photobucket

History
Hammonton NJ, United States (2001 – 2007)
2001-2007(Hiatus)
The band was formed by guitarists Arthur “Ace” Enders (who was born on April 19th and grew up in Bass River, New Jersey, before moving to Hammonton, New Jersey) & Jim Sacco along with bassist Sergio Anello and drummer Jeff Kummer in Hammonton, New Jersey in February 2001.
Together, they recorded a 5 track demo in Enders’ basement and sent it, along with a poorly edited videotape to only one label: Drive-Thru Records.
A couple of months passed while both Sacco and Anello had to budge for more skilled replacements, Steve Nakovich (guitar) and Mike Klemash (bass), until the band got in touch with Richard Reines of Drive-Thru, who luckily was visiting their hometown and agreed to meet with the band to give advice.
Stunned by what he had heard, Reines returned to California to discuss a possible signing with Drive-Thru co-owner Stefanie Reines. A few weeks and yet another line-up change later (Joe Marro joined for Nakovich), Drive-Thru signed The Early November and put them, despite their practically non-existent on stage experience, on 2002’s Skate and Surf Fest and on selected dates of the Warped Tour.
Klemash and Marro left the band before the recording of their debut EP For All of This. Anello re-joined on bass, while a temporary second guitarist was found in John Dubitsky. The CD came out on Drive-Thru Records in early November 2002. Enders recorded The Acoustic EP on his own, featuring acoustic versions of most songs off their debut EP, which was released a mere two months later.

Taking Back Sunday

Photobucket

History
Amityville, New York, USA (1999 – present)
Taking Back Sunday originally formed in Amityville, New York, USA in 1999. The band has gone through several lineup changes. Their first release came in 2001 with the Taking Back Sunday EP, and featured Antonio Longo on vocals, John Nolan on guitar and backing vocals, Eddie Reyes on guitar (the original founder of the band), Jesse Lacey on bass, and Stevie D on drums. This CD was distributed at Taking Back Sunday shows, but never achieved any noteworthy success. Following a change of lineup (Jesse Lacey to Adam Lazzara and Mark O’Connell replaced Stevie D) they released the follow-up album Tell All Your Friends, which was produced by Sal Villaneuva. The album gave the band a first taste of success in the scene. After the release, they played with bands such as Brand New (formed by former bassist Jesse Lacey) and The Used, as well as performing as a short stint on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour. Another change in their lineup occurred when singer/guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper left the band and formed what is now Straylight Run. Because of these departures, the band’s future was in doubt for some time. However, with the additions of guitarist/vocalist Fred Mascherino and bassist Matt Rubano, the band became stabilized.

The year 2004 proved to be a successful year for Taking Back Sunday, with the band opening for blink-182 and being one of the main headliners for the Vans Warped Tour. In addition, their second album, titled Where You Want to Be, was released on July 27, 2004 on Victory Records.

Snow Patrol

Photobucket

History
Dundee, United Kingdom (1994 – present)
Snow Patrol is an alternative rock band which formed in Dundee, Scotland in 1994 and currently based in Bangor, Northern Ireland, where most of the band members are from. They consist of Gary Lightbody (vocals, guitar), Nathan Connolly (guitar, vocals), Paul Wilson (bass), Tom Simpson (keyboards) and Johnny Quinn (drums). Lightbody and Quinn are the only original members who remain in the band. The band became wildly successful on both sides of the Atlantic on the back of their fourth record, 2006’s “Eyes Open” and the ballad “Chasing Cars” - a song that has spent a near-record breaking 90 weeks on the UK Top 75. Some of their other well known songs are “Run”, “Spitting Games”, “You’re All I Have”, “Hands Open” and “Take Back the City”.
The main thing to get about Snow Patrol is that, 14 years after they started out as a student band at Dundee University, they’re still flying, gloriously and unpredictably, by the seat of their pants. “The great and terrifying thing about our band,” declares their leader and main songwriter Gary Lightbody, “Is that everything has always happened as it’s going along. There’s been very little masterplan. We allow things to happen as much by accident as by deliberate intention.” One notable early accident was their name. Lightbody’s band used to be known as Polar Bear - hence their 1998 debut album Songs For Polarbears - but were obliged to change it after discovering that this was what the bassist of Jane’s Addiction was calling his side project. ‘Snow Patrol’ had already been chosen for them by a friend who didn’t care for the Polar Bear moniker; and so it came to pass that Snow Patrol signed in 1995 to the Jeepster label, home of their Glaswegian indie heroes at the time, Belle and Sebastian.

Panic! At the Disco

History
Las Vegas, United States (2002 – present)
Panic! At the Disco is currently a two-piece pop/rock band hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Current members:
* Brendon Urie – lead vocals, guitar, piano, bass guitar (2004–present)
* Spencer Smith – drums, percussion (2004–present)
Former members:
* Brent Wilson – bass guitar (2004–2006)
* Ryan Ross - lead guitar, vocals, lyricist, piano (2004-2009)
* Jon Walker - bass guitar, vocals, guitar (2006-2009)
Touring members:
* Eric Ronick – keyboards, vocals (2006–2008)
* Ian Crawford – guitar, vocals (2009–present)
* Dallon Weekes – bass guitar, vocals (2009–present)
Although the band officially formed as Panic! at the Disco in 2004, the first incarnation of the band was formed in 2002 under the name “Pet Salamander”, with Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, Brent Wilson, and Trevor Howell. It was during this time that Ryan Ross wrote “Time To Dance” and “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”, so it could be considered that the band formed in 2002.
In 2005, Panic! at the Disco, which at the time included Urie, Smith, guitarist/lyricist/vocalist Ryan Ross, and bassist Brent Wilson, was discovered by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, who, after hearing demos the band uploaded to PureVolume, went to Las Vegas to hear the band play in their garage. He immediately signed them to his Fueled By Ramen label imprint, Decaydance. After their debut, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, was released, bassist Brent Wilson left the band. Although he claims he was fired, the other members deny this.

Murder By Death

Photobucket

History
Bloomington IN, United States (2000 – present)
Indiana’s Murder by Death (formerly known as Little Joe Gould) layers the vocal sounds of an old saloon with the haunting strings of a Hungarian folk dance and the hard driving rhythms of pure rock ‘n’ roll, producing what Stuff magazine has called “lush, orchestrated songs,” somehow simultaneously reminiscent of Johnny Cash and Radiohead. Added to that thick and intriguing sound are a series of dark and ironic lyrics, combining the mood and tone of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds with the narrative force of The Decemberists or a short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Adam Turla fills out these sometimes frightening, sometimes beautiful lyrics by conjuring up a cast of character voices, allowing the songs to speak with the force of the characters themselves, and providing the listener with a sense of ensemble unique in rock music.
But this ensemble feel is not only the result of Turla’s vocal playfulness, but of the cohesive playing of the band itself. Sarah Balliet channels her Kentucky bluegrass roots through the skilled hands of a concert cellist, playing point and counterpoint to the lyrics and guitars with magnificent grace and style. Matt Armstrong’s bass guitar provides the rhythmic framework of the band, but also takes the lead with surprising frequency, guiding Murder by Death into driving highs and brooding lows. And Alex Schrodt’s drumsticks almost dance across the skins, giving the band what the Chicago Reader called “a rhythm section Nick Cave or The Faint would die for.” The result is a fascinating slice of American Gothic, replete with trail rides, whiskey shots and Old Scratch himself.
