Dragon Force

History

Photobucket

(1999 – present)
DragonForce is a power metal band that was formed in 1999, from the remnants of black metal band Demoniac under the name of DragonHeart. However, the band soon changed its name to DragonForce before releasing any commercial albums due to possible commercial issues with Brazilian band DragonHeart. Their career began with publishing of songs on the first incarnation of MP3.com, claiming the top of the site’s heavy metal charts. The hit song Valley of the Damned reached over 500,000 downloads in the first few months.

Despite this, two of the original members, Steve Williams and Steve Scott left the band to form power metal outfit Power Quest.

On October 28, 2005 bassist Adrian Lambert announced his departure from the band. (Lambert later revealed in an interview that he had left due to musical differences with Herman Li and Sam Totman). Less than a month after Lambert’s departure, on November 23th 2005, DragonForce was signed to Roadrunner Records which released their album Inhuman Rampage in 2006. Lambert was replaced in 2006 by Frédéric Leclercq, who was made an official member after a performance on tour.

Judas Priest

Photobucket

history

Judas Priest are pioneers of the heavy metal genre and were forerunners of the ‘New Wave of British Heavy Metal’ movement, laying the groundwork for the speed and thrash metal of the 80s and 90s.

The band was formed in Birmingham, England in 1969 by guitarist John Perry (who died shortly after and was replaced by Earnest Chataway), bassist Bruno Stapenhill, drummer John Partridge, and singer Alan Atkins.

In 1970, guitarist Kenneth Downing and bassist Ian Hill join, and in 1972 Rob Halford and drummer John Hinch join too. A second guitarist, Glenn Tipton, was also added to the lineup in 1974 as compensation for their record company’s (Gull Records) suggestion to add another instrument to the first album.

Atkins was replaced by singer Rob Halford and the band would go on to record 14 albums from 1974 through 1990. Their second album Sad Wings of Destiny is considered as one of the most influential album for metal, along with Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut album.

Their “twin axe attack” was not particularly popular at the time, but became a trademark for the group and would inspire other bands to do the same.

Halford left the group in 1993, going in a new direction with his new, short-lived metal band, Fight.

With Halford gone, the future looked bleak for the band, but after numerous searches for a suitable replacement, they found something special in tribute band front man Tim “Ripper” Owens.

Slipknot

slipknot

History
Slipknot is a nine-piece alternative/nu metal band from Des Moines, Iowa (United States). Aside from their real names, members of the band are also referred to by numbers 0 through 8.(#0 Sid Wilson, #1 Joey Jordison, #2 Paul Gray, #3 Chris Fehn, #4 James Root, #5 Craig Jones, #6 Shawn Crahan, #7 Mick Thomson & #8 Corey Taylor)

Slipknot is known for its strange and often frightening image; the members wear matching uniform jumpsuits all of which have the UPC barcode 742617000027 printed on them (The barcode from their first album Mate, Feed , Kill, Repeat) and each has a unique mask which they are never seen without (on any official Slipknot material) until the interviews on their latest DVD - Voliminal: Inside the Nine, and partially on the music video for the song, Before I Forget. Each member has made a distinct change to their masks after each studio album. Several members have several masks that are interchanged during any one time period, most notably Chris (#3) and Sid (#0).

The band released many different DVDs, the first official one titled ‘Disasterpieces’ (named after the song Disasterpiece off ‘Iowa’) filmed at the London Arena on February 16th 2002 by over 32 cameras, including cameras fitted on each of the masks worn by the band. During this show Sid (#0) went into the crowd for the song Spit it Out and someone managed to get the camera from his mask, it was returned after the show.
